Junior Bok coach Bafana Nhleko says his group had a good week training week in the build-up to the historic Sanzaar tournament.

Hurricanes and Manawatū hooker Vernon Bason will captain the New Zealand Under 20 team against their arch-rivals South Africa in this opening match.

The rivalry and tradition between South Africa and New Zealand also mean a lot of pride are at stake in this opening-round encounter, but Nhleko also says his players have to be aware of the Kiwi threats all over the field.

Hosts Australia and Argentina will clash in the other game of the opening-round double header.

The new tournament comprises a round-robin format where all teams will play each other once and the top team after the three-round, six-match tournament will be declared as winner of the first U20 Rugby Championship.
